Film - Take the Lead

A new dance film with Antonio Banderas is worth a look.

I've attached a link to a review, but it's worth noting that ALL dance films receive a poor review and then they become classics! Dirty dancing, Strictly Ballrom and Grease etc

Saw this film over the weekend. There is some good dancing, and Antonio is the cool dancing dude in this, but I felt that the film was spoilt by the American kids anguish with their own lives and bad attitude. Its always a storyline about the real real worst in school bad asses with the up yours attitude isn't it? Its a bit like the boxing films, yunno, kids from the ghetto, fighting for a better life as theirs is so tough, hey, wow! dancings cool, but im still gonna be rude to people and try and be competitive with you dance geeks in their own studio we just took over ...respect? none given by these wallies - I blame the crappy american writers who haven't a clue
Do we really have bad ass young bad attitude dancers in our midst? only in America it seems. Unreal. Supposed to be a true story? Nah, too much poetic licence methinks

Go and see it, but just for the dancing - and get some sleep through the storyline

Hi Ken,

As I expected from an American rendition of a dance film. Sounds all too familiar.

Never mind.

Was the Dancing any good?

Antonio and this gorgeous leggy blonde go and give a demo to these 'school outcasts' and leave them 'open mouthed' (just a tad unbelieveable)- those two did a pretty fantastic routine, best bit of the film, the boy Antonio can sure dance and oh, for a woman partner like her! The 'students' did some good dancing, but I would have liked to have seen more, there was not enough dancing I'm afraid. I'm sure other people will agree, would like to see other people's feedback about the film...

Based on a true story Take the Lead tells how a professional dancer, Pierre Dulane, influenced the lives of young disenfranchised people through the power of dance.

Although given the Hollywood treatment, if it comes anywhere near the truth it was a fantastic achievement.

The dancing was great and it is a film well worth seeing and guaranteed to set your feet tapping. Go see and enjoy.
