What is Smooth Jive?

SMOOTH JIVE

Smooth Jive uses similar if not the same dance moves/patterns as other partner dances, but are performed and taught with a different style and technique.

The Smooth Jive style can be closely compared to West Coast Swing, but without the need for the slot and the step patterns. It is highly stylish and as the name suggests it is very smooth.

The biggest differences between Smooth Jive and Modern Jive is that the latter is boppy and very undisciplined. Smooth Jive uses body weight, connection, footwork, musicality and is constantly evolving to produce improved technique.

The results are easy to see and we believe, as founders of Smooth Jive, that it will become the preferred way to dance for all those looking to move on from Modern Jive.

We are aiming to provide, time permitting, advanced workshops in Smooth Jive in the near future, but for those that didn’t know, we are already teaching Smooth Jive in our weekly classes.
