I feel its a huge shame to resort back to stepping back!.
I really enjoyed the challenge of stepping forward, and found the moves alot easier to lead and many ladies agreed it was easier to follow! I will however be continuing to step forward and not resort to the step back!!!!!!!

Thank you Crayford Dancer, we are hugely disappointed that people are not willing to change a slight thing to improve their dancing for the better, however, we will continue to dance this way and I for one will not teach the step back, but allow the dancers to chose which way they would rather step.

I also feel its a great shame to resort back to the stepping back.
I dance at all of your north Kent venues and find that with the 'step with' move i can lead the lady easier and most agree!! It is a shame this rather small change to the teaching technique has stirred such 'contreversy'.And as you make perfectly clear before, during and after if you wish to step back then thats fine.Ireally cant see what all the fuss is about.I for one as well will be continuing with the 'step with'method and still continuing to have a great night out everytime i dance at one of your venues.Come on guys give it a try !!!!!!!!!!

There is more than one way to dance! When I first learnt Ballroom Jive I tried to use it to modern pop music but more often than not it didn't fit. Then I saw French people on holiday doing jive to all types of music. To cut a long story short Modern Jive as taught in various venues is like or even derived from the jive I saw the French doing. An element of a lot of jive dances is a back step , sometimes called the rock step. It is great for keeping the rhythm and giving the dance an exciting upbeat style.
However more and more I want to dance smoother and more romantically and with more style. Some music demands this and even the faster tunes often have a slow section where a change of pace is required. I think Smooth Jive as taught by Dance Riviera has given me more options in my dance repertoire. The 'new' lead and follow style, with step forward/ aside is not only elegant to look at but better for the follower.
I admire the teachers at Dance Riviera and hope that they will see that this controversy is just High summer madness brought on by heat, floods and people with foot and mouth. (Too much mouth and not enough options for the foot!)
