July 4 - A day for Beer and Burgers
In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain (charming!). Today is the only holiday that celebrates the United States and is a national holiday marked by patriotic displays. A colourful Independence Day event is the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City, which supposedly started on July 4, 1916 as a way to settle a dispute among four immigrants as to who was the most patriotic. It has been estimated that in previous years Americans have consumed about 150 million hot dogs on July 4, or almost one hot dog for every other person in the United States.
Whether or not you like hot-dogs July 4th is a good excuse to have a burger and a beer!

Thinking of food (and since I havent eaten today yet I am) – my staff restaurant has gone American for the day – no fish and chips for us! We have an all-American menu ... two soups (Senate bean or Boston clam chowder) followed by Buffalo wings, Chilli & Jumbo Hot Dogs with American Mustard, Barbeque Pork Ribs, Tex- Mex Tortilla shells, chilli con carne with sour cream & guacamole, Beef or Chicken Burgers with Monterey Jack cheese or Cajun Grilled Salmon (with side orders of Southern Fried Aubergine, Baked Sweet Potato, Cinnamon Spinach, Cajun Wedges, Carolina Pilau Rice and/or Black Eyed Peas). To follow there is Mississippi Mud Pie, Chocolate Pecan Pie, Baked Pumpkin Cheesecake, New York Cheesecake, Banoffee Pie or Blueberry Pancakes.
So can anyone tell me why is it that obesity is high in the US???
